C12 Versus M147

This past weekend we were able to mess around with a low serial number AKG C12VR and a Neumann M147 on a male singer. The singer had a darker, more Eddie Vedder style voice for the session material. The C12 was hands down the winner. We had it hooked into the API 7600 channel strip and then touched the Inward Connection Brute compressor. The compressor just gave it that extra solid ground to stand on. Unreal clarity and richness. The M147 was another solid mic, but in this session the C12VR won the battle. We know that the C12 has been around for decades and though it is a very expensive mic, we are thinking about saving for one of these bad boys.
